PIN 3.0 Decommissioning
The PIN 3.0 authentication service is scheduled to be decommissioned by the end of December 2014. Administrators whose applications still use this method of authentication should work with the IAM team to develop a transition plan to either CAS or Shibboleth authentication. To get a better understanding of the differences between these authentication services, please see our “Getting Started with Authentication” guide.
The IAM team is working to identify every owner of a web gate that still uses PIN 3.0 authentication, and contacting all owners to help establish a point person for communication regarding the transition. IAM Deputy Product Manager Masha Shoykhet had the following to say about the transition:
“This is a very different project for us,” said Shoykhet. “In past transitions, we’ve told people ‘you need to go take care of this.’ But in this case, we are so committed to hitting our target transition date [the end of December 2014] that we are actually providing the technical resources to assist folks with the move.”
The IAM team is dedicated to helping complete this transition on schedule, and will continue to share updates and useful reference items throughout. For questions regarding the transition from PIN 3.0, please contact Masha Shoykhet.
