IAM Showcases Offerings at Harvard IT Summit
On June 5, 2014, the Identity and Access Management team joined staff members from across Harvard University Information Technology for the University’s annual IT Summit, a full day of on-campus presentations and workshops on a variety of key IT topics. In addition to sharing in the collaborative learning environment with other HUIT staff, members of the IAM team also led two well-received presentations at the summit.
Magnus Bjorkman, director of IAM engineering, and Greg Freiter, software development manager for IAM, teamed up with SIS Technical Lead Carolyn Brzezinski and CADM Infrastructure Architect Rob Parrott for “Migrating Applications to the Cloud.” The presentation focused on the benefits of moving a range of different Harvard applications to the cloud, as well as providing examples of applications already successfully migrated by IAM and SIS. The presentation was one of the best-attended of the day, attracting more than 120 HUIT affiliates and culminating in a lively Q&A session and very positive feedback after the event – proof that cloud computing at Harvard is indeed a hot topic.
IAM’s second presentation of the day, “A Case of Identity,” provided an overview of the program’s efforts, goals, and expected outcomes, presented by Jason Snyder (Managing Director, HUIT Architecture & Engineering), Erica Bradshaw (Director of IAM Strategy and Planning), Jane Hill (Director of IAM Product Management), and Gretchen Grozier (IAM Community Program Manager). Joining the team to discuss how IAM efforts have benefited their Harvard units were Julie Broad of the Harvard Alumni Association, Tyson Kamikawa of Harvard Medical School, and Steve Duncan and Paul Hermany of Harvard Kennedy School. These partners offered briefings on how the IAM team has directly assisted their groups, positive reactions to their experiences with IAM, and ongoing or future identity and access management benchmarks and goals for their units.
The IAM team’s presentations were a valuable, vibrant addition to the broad showcase of innovation and forward motion presented at the 2014 IT Summit – and IAM is already looking forward to implementing new initiatives and developments to share at next year’s event.
