Reference groups in Grouper are dynamically updated based on a person's affiliations with Harvard. One such affiliation is that of an employee. There are 19 distinct employee classifications that are used to create employee-related reference groups. Below is a table listing the employee classification codes and description.

Employee Class is an attribute of Job Code.

Admin &amp; Professional

Exempt, administrative/ professional staff (individual contributors, managers, executives). Grandfathered job codes start with “8” and “5”. No new incumbents should enter these job codes.

Special Exclusion

Adjunct faculty, typically working at the Division of Continuing Education

Temporary Academic

Work less than 6 mos, receive no benefits, contact Office of Academic Affairs

D

Temporary Student

Harvard students working on a temporary and part-time basis

E

Intern

Interns, many in Athletics and IT

F

Senior Faculty

Faculty appointments at the professorial rank, including tenured, non-tenured, and post-tenure appointments.

Graduate Students

Research Assistants/Teaching Fellows

Graduate Student Fellowship

Graduate Student Fellowship Recipients

TA's, Other Staff

Junior Faculty

Tenure-track assistant and associate professors at all schools. Also includes these non-ladder faculty: adjunct, clinical and non-clock assistant and associate professors, convertible instructors, senior preceptors (FAS only), and senior lecturers and multi-year lecturers at certain schools.

Part Time Service &amp; Trade

Unionized hourly part-time service and trades (dining, custodial, etc.) employees.

Ext Post Docs NHR

Visiting scholars and scientists, Nieman and other fellows

Other Faculty

Non-ladder faculty at the following ranks: senior lecturer and lecturer for certain Schools, annual lecturer at all schools, preceptor (FAS only) and instructor. Also includes visiting faculty across all ranks, administrative leadership appointments (deans, department heads, directors), research appointments (research scientist, research associate), and athletic staff (FAS only).
